WHAT IS
RE-IMAGINING
PUBLIC SAFETY?
THE ISSUE
Globally, people are calling on their elected officials and community bodies to reduce and eliminate budgets for policing. We are no longer going to pay for police to punish our communities. These funds can be redirected to support and provide much needed alternative community services and improvements to public housing, mental health support, addictions treatment, and food security programs among other basic needs.
Currently, the Barrie Police Service receives over $57 million in funding. Recently Barrie City Council voted 10-1 against reducing the Police Services budget by 5%, despite previous years of increases in the face of other social service cuts.
Together we can build a safe and supported city, for ALL.
